Is Tiger Woods Really the Best?
Tiger has just won his 12th major and all the other players know that, right now he is the best. But why is that? Everyone has access to the same equipment Tiger has. They can practice on the same courses he does. The rules are the same for everyone. So what is it? Simple, Tiger is a better conditioned athlete! “Look at most other sports” says Rafael Moret,CSCS , creator of The Miami Golf Fitness Program “If an athlete at a professional level trains hard during the off season, then he or she will most likely show up in good condition for training camp or pre-season, but as the season starts and continues it is only the Elite athletes that continued their progressive training regimens that shine over the rest, and Tiger is no different”.
A few years ago when it was reported that Tiger incorporated weight training into his program and that is was giving him an edge, a few of the other players tried it and instantly saw results from this type of training regimen. Tiger Woods said in an interview on PGA.com “The guys understand that you have to do it now. The game has changed so much. In order to compete and hit the ball as far as some of the guys are hitting it now, you've got to get in there and spend the time. You've got to get stronger and you've got to get more flexible. Look at the scores we're shooting now on the golf courses that are so long, you really have to get in there now. You can't afford not to”. But to get better you have to consistently strive for more and just like every body, every human body that is Tiger had adapted to this and needed more, and not just a workout with weights. Squat and bench pressing might make you stronger but they won’t help your swing or your game. He needed a golf specific strength training program and he need to do it on a regularly during the season and even during the tournaments he plays in. That is what separates him from the pack. Not only is he incorporating an athletic training program for his sport, he is doing it on a consistent basis. Now, you add his superior athletic performance with his knowledge and understanding of the game of Golf and that gives you 12 Majors and 51 victories and years of more supremacy to come.
